St George’s Crypt housing support

Support is offered for individuals on a low income in Leeds. St George’s Crypt partners with other charities, including churches, to assist with housing and resettlement. They work to ensure that people have basic needs, safe and affordable housing to live in, and can access training. Many others need help in accessing benefits or a scheme to pay the deposit on a new home, and St George’s Crypt can help with that as well.

All across Leeds, various churches and other organisations are partnering together to help the homeless. They also join together with local councils and advice centers as needed to coordinate assistance. The focus of many of these centres is on helping the homeless get resettlement and gain stability.

A key service administered in the Floating Support programme. This comes into play after a tenant has found accommodations to live in. As part of this move on process, they can get referrals to rental and deposit schemes, as these are available in Leeds. Other financial aid can be coordinated too.

St George’s Crypt may also have information on landlords that participate in a bond guarantee. Or counselors can help those tenants that are in rent arrears. In any case, there is assistance offered for both moving into and keeping the private accommodations.

Sometimes tenants and families need more long term support to keep their housing. This can be arranged too. This is another key goal of the charity organisations Floating Support services.

For people that are found eligible, it also provides them with free advice, guidance, and support. Some of the other services that may be arranged includes help with accessing housing benefits, budgeting, information on tenant responsibilities, and landlord issue. All of this is done in an effort to prevent future homelessness in Leeds.

In addition, staff from St George’s Crypt focus on people or families that moved on from emergency housing. Those individuals will partner with a key-worker who will ensure they have the support they need over the long term. The worker will help the homeless individual move into permanent placement and even apply rent deposit schemes in qualified. A plan of action will be created and monitored. All housing goals will need to be met by the applicant.

As part of homeless prevention, the hardship needs to be addressed through engagement and training when needed. This service helps clients develop the life or employment skills they need to cope with everyday life. Volunteers from churches offer much of this.

Other services are wide ranging. The homeless can learn about benefits available to them from the government. There are also poverty programmes and solutions, in addition to the various Leeds area schemes for security deposits that landlords participate in. There are wide ranging and offer individuals various activities.

Shelter and emergency housing solutions

Another emergency shelter is known as The Hub. This is provided in partnership with the No Second Night Out Protocol, local council’s and the Leeds City Council, among others. Churches and other charities may work with the Crypt on this. There is assistance for rough sleepers in the region, and they can get a meal, clothing, and place to sleep. It is also part of the No Second Night Out Protocol in place.

The Crypt and its outreach team will also provide additional support. Clients can learn about housing payment programmes, where to turn to for benefits or rent schemes, and other support. Key-workers from the Housing Options team go over all options with the homeless individual.

The St George’s Crypt Day Centre is based at local churches. It offers a warm and safe place for people to go. Clients get free food, advice, and more. They can learn about housing, how to gain personal wellbeing, and health needs met. The centre is open year round for families.

The Church Ministry of the Homeless arranges other resources. It can include free food, meals, clothing and guidance. Volunteers and case workers from across Leeds want to help the vulnerable and homeless. So they provide them with those basic needs, which is in addition to everything else that is offered.
