Affordable transport Wheels 2 Work schemes
People seeking affordable transport for work or training can get help from the Wheels 2 Work scheme. This is available in most cities as well as rural communities in the UK and it was created to provide affordable scooters, bicycles, mopeds, and more to the low income or unemployed. The work transport programme can also be called the Learning scheme, and it may cost as little as £20 per week or even less for transport.
The unemployed as well as individuals living in poverty may find it difficult to pay offer a loan on a car. Many young people also lack affordable transport and it is a barrier to them getting a job. Or applicants to the scheme may have had to give up their form of transport. This will then often prevent them from getting a job or attending training. The Wheels 2 Work scheme was created to help address this need for affordable transportation, and over 50 organisations and even local councils administer it.
Also, families living in poverty may also fall behind on their car loans. W2W may be able to ensure they continue to have transport to their job so they can sustain their employment. While they may be given a moped for this reason, and be charged a low weekly price for it, some councils in the UK may also offer vouchers to pay for the bus.
Modes of transport provided from Wheels to Work
It will depend on where the applicant lives. It someones lives in a city, they may be given a bicycle or scooter. People in more rural areas may be provided a low cost scooter. Young people may also be assisted, and based on their age, they may be given power assisted bikes. The transport will always be loaned out to the client for a low price and they do not get to keep it over the long term. Wheels to Work will help UK residents break barriers to getting employment in the labour market.
There are eligibility criteria. Generally the Wheels to Work scheme will only assist people with no access to public transport. This means there can be no bus or tube system available. This is why many of the clients will live outside of cities in rural area. The scheme will also help people that live where public transport is available only during business hours or maybe it is inadequate as it is not close to their home or flat.
The organisations to apply at are below. During this process bring proof of income as well as the offer of a job. Or if the need for transportation is for job training, then bring information on the programme. For those individuals that need it for training, enquire into the Wheels to Learning schemes (W2L).
When applying for assistance for education or job training, bring information on the post-16 programme. The organisations will want to see when the classes start and end. During that time-frame affordable transport may be given to the client. This will help them travel to their post-16 opportunity.
