Oil companies across Belfast as well as number of retailers and post offices are participating in the Fuel stamps scheme. This was created by the City Council and is available for all families and individuals of the population, no matter their income. It allows households to save money for their heating or gas bills. They are able to spread the costs of their fuel over the course of several months or even years.
The programme, also sometimes called Be Warm, is available to all members of the community, regardless of their income or other factors. Anyone from the community can stop by a retailer or maybe even their local post office to buy a stamp. it can also be combined with other assistance, such as government grants.
The scheme has been effective for many years and is available throughout Belfast and other communities in Northern Ireland. It continues to grow as the city is always looking for more oil companies and retailers from across the city to sign up to participate in the scheme.
People can buy the oil stamps from a numerous retailers, and a sampling of some of the major ones are below. However other companies participate. Households can collect them on a savings card. Then, when they place an order for oil, people can use the value of the stamps to pay for all or part of the heating oil.
In order to take part in the scheme, a number of steps and conditions need to be followed. Individuals can pick up savings card from one or more of the Belfast retailers that are taking part in the scheme. Then, they just need to add their address and name to the “Be Warm” card, and it should be where you want the oil delivered.
Then people can buy the actual fuel stamps a local retailer. They will cost £5 each. After the purchase is done, just put the stamp on the card in the space provided. Then, in order to use the card, just call any of the fuel or heating oil companies that are participating in the scheme.
Always agree to the price as part of the order. Doing this in advance will help people save money on their electricity bills. Also, communicate how many stamps (if any) to use and agree to a payment method. Note that the individual can use as many or as few of the fuel stamps as they would like. There is no minimums commitment needed. However the savings card works as cash so make sure it is not lost or stolen.
The main goal of the Fuel Stamp Scheme was to help people budget in order to pay for energy costs, including oil and electricity. There are no income limits and it is open to all members of the population. Another benefit is that the stamps can be purchased on an ongoing basis, and this makes the fuel payment process easier. Households will therefore not be faced with large heating bills during the cold winter months, as they were able to pay for the fuel over the course of the year. For more information or energy bill saving tips, the Belfast City Council Fuel Project officer can be reached at (028) 9032 0202.
