Birmingham emergency shelter accommodations

There are several organisations in Birmingham that provide emergency shelter. Clients of the organisations can often get a bed to sleep in for a few days as well as other support services. This can range from free meals to information on locating permanent accommodations

There are several organizations that run multiple shelters, such as St Basils and Midland Heart, and some independent housing providers. More information on each of the programmes is below, but the capacity of each centre is limited. If a shelter provider can’t meet the need of the individual seeking help, then they can often signpost the applicant to other schemes or charities in the Birmingham area.

Midland Heart has six accommodations across Birmingham. Each location will be for homeless or vulnerable residents over the age of 25. However each of the short term accommodation centres focus on a certain type of person, whether women, men, children, or even ex-offenders.

  • The location at 44 Bradford Street (telephone – 0345 602 0549) is for single men over the age of 25.
  • The Helen Dixon House is focused on women from Birmingham. They can either be homeless now or threatened with an eviction. This will help women across West Midlands and not just the city. Call 0345 602 0549.

The Midland Heart Long Street housing site is an option. This shelter will serve a meal as well as give clothing to the client, who need to be under the age of 25 and be homeless. The telephone number is 0345 602 0540.

Homeless men in the city of Birmingham can use the South Road House. This will offer a bed to sleep in as well as practical support. The temporary housing is for up to 20 men maximum, but if the centre is full, referrals may be provided.

Zambesi Project is for the disabled or men with a mental illness. The Midland Heart run transitional housing site has a post of 44 Bradford Street, Birmingham, B5 6HX, phone 0345 602 0549. Clients of this shelter can also be substance abusers.

Salvation Army centre on Shadwell Street provides emergency shelter for residents age 20 to 60. The phone number is 0121 236 6554. The not-for-profit providers many other services to people as well. The Salvation Army may serve the homeless person a hot meal, and also social workers offer holistic support to help them overcome the crisis.

St Anne’s Hostel will house men over the age of 25. They can even have dogs. The Hostel is located at 112 Moseley Street, Highgate, Birmingham, B12 0RY, telephone 0121 772 4406.

St Basils has three locations in the Est Midland. They are one of the leading charities for the low income and homeless to contact. Several programmes are run, ranging from floating support to advice on applying for welfare and rent deposit schemes. The aim of the shelters are to help the family gain independence.

  • Edgwood House is located at 5 Ryder Street, Birmingham, B4 7NE, dial 0121 233 1508. This is for residents under the age of 25.
  • St Basils Milner Court short term accommodations are run from a centre at Heath Mill Lane in Birmingham. The phone number is 0121 766 6907.
  • Yardley House has a post of The Toll House, 180-182 Fazeley Street, Birmingham, B5 5SE.

The Trident shelter is for both women or men. The location can only support five people at most. The emergency accommodations are located at Washington Court, 35-38 Washington Street. The person contacting the charity will access many other support services as well.

YMCA has a centre in Erdington, and it is known as The Orchard. This site is for people under the age of 25. Volunteers from the YMCA will also help the individual gain stability by assisting with job training and placement into a new, permanent home.

This organisation also partners with the city council to help those in poverty. Other support can include applications to benefits, hot meals, and form filing for deposit schemes. The post is 301 Reservoir Road, or ring 0121 477 4644.
