Christian Care Association programmes in Merton

Relying heavily on donations, Christian Care Association can assist the vulnerable that can’t receive help from any other source. Many of the people that turn to the faith based group are not on benefits or do not receive any other aid, and the Association or other groups like it are often their last option.

There are many programmes available in the London borough of Merton from Christian CARE. Over 30 churches in the borough are involved in offering the services. However each programme is very limited as they do rely on the donations. But the main services from CCA are below.

Emergency groceries are passed out. The centre has it’s own store of food for families on a low income, with an aim to help those households with children. However, Christian Care Association does not operate its own food bank. So therefore the groceries from the charity are limited and for a crisis only.

The food is donated from partners in Merton, such as Wimbledon and Sutton High Schools or local churches. However anyone can bring groceries or tinned items at any time. The goods are always appreciated. Volunteers will also help pass out the items to the needy.

Items for babies and single parents are offered. It is only for people that can’t afford to buy the goods are their own, and there may be cots, baths, and buggies. They can also use the food programme referenced above as well. There is also a charity store in Merton which will sell, or provide for free, clothing and baby clothes.

Furniture and white goods are for the formerly homeless moving into a new flat, or it is for people that are under exceptional financial pressure and that can’t afford their own items. The furniture passed out by the Association comes from donations. There may be cookers, kitchen utensils, glass items, and more. Not only will furniture be passed out, but volunteers will even deliver the goods to the family using a van service.

The assistance is the result of the Furniture Project. The charity collects donated, second-hand furniture. It needs to be good quality, but it does not need to be new. Then, based on the PAT safety test that is done, the items are distributed to residents of Merton.

Christian Care Association holiday parties and seasonal assistance, including for Christmas and new Years, are run. This can offer the family, including youngsters, with a meal or holiday joy. There are also summer camps organised. Churches want the vulnerable to experience holiday joy.

Please donate to CCA if possible. While they may on occasion receive grants, most of the income from the association is from cheques from individuals, businesses, or churches in London. More funding is always appreciated by Christian CARE.

Not matter what the hardship being faced is, volunteers from Christian Care Association are available. They listen to the need and provide caring advice. They not only can offer emergency assistance as noted below, but signposting is also available for other benefits or programmes in the Merton borough or elsewhere in London. This can cover long term needs. For more information Christian CARE drop in centre is at Martin Way Methodist Church, Buckleigh Avenue, Merton Park, London, SW20 9JZ. Or ring 020 3302 0181.
