Anyone that is struggling with their housing can get assistance from the City of Oxford Home Choice scheme, which helps with rent deposits, legal aid, applications to Housing Benefit Payments and much more. This is the cities main homeless prevention programme. It not only works to keep people in their current flats or homes, but also helps the homeless find a new place to live.
The scheme involves the participation of landlords as well as tenants. There may also be support for those seeking a tenancy agreement. In addition to that, there are also other organisations in the area that participate with the City of Oxford on the rent deposit scheme, and they include the following.
Other groups from the city may also be involved. The scheme combines many different services. They are listed below. Any homeless person, or a tenant facing eviction, can get help from them.
The process can involve temporary accommodations as well as help in finding and moving into a private sector home of their choice. In addition to that, ongoing tenancy support can be arranged by the Housing Options Duty officer in the city centre. The steps of the City of Oxford Home Choice rent deposit scheme are as follows.
1) Tenants, or the homeless seeking a home, are introduced to landlords who participate in the scheme. This is done through the housing officer.
2) A tenancy agreement is put together with the landlord and prospective tenant, and the City of Oxford Legal Executive is involved in that process if need be. It is a quick process.
3) Form filling is arranged for Cash or Guaranteed Bond Deposits, which will pay for any damages or future rent in arrears.
4) Tenants can also get additional financial assistance from the rent in advance payment, which can pay for up to one month and is in addition to the deposit bond.
If this process is successful, the City of Oxford resident can get other financial assistance as well as free advice, including for legal matters. This is in addition to the rent deposit bond. As many of the clients need support to ensure they do not get evicted again in the past. These parts of the scheme are as follows.
Applications can be arranged for Housing Benefit Payments. This will allow a very low income family, or one in poverty, to receive government assistance that can pay a portion of their rent. The Housing Benefit assessor helps with form filing for LHA, goes over other forms of benefits as well. As many people on the City of Oxford Home Choice rent deposit scheme also receive emergency welfare for paying their bills.
Lastly, there is Ongoing Tenancy Support as well as Legal Executives that help. The aim here is to keep the family in their home, and prevent future homelessness. There will be information on emergency rental assistance programmes, loans, eviction prevention, legal assistance and more. All of these services are part of Ongoing Tenancy Support.
