Services from Cyrenians are aimed at preventing homelessness. The charity organisation can provide eligible families on a low income with free advice, mediation, referrals to rental assistance, and other support. Specialists work closely with the local council in order to coordinate services for people that are facing homelessness.
Most of the aid is aimed at people that are facing a onetime crisis. Many of those from the community that are seeking help with their rent arrears often are employed or have some type of formal education. The assistance provided is also for those that have been homeless in the past.
The main service for preventing evictions and homelessness can help both tenants and homeowners deal with a number of challenges. If people have a dispute with their mortgage provider or maybe their landlord, then mediation may be a good solution. This can also help those in dispute with say a family member that they share a home with. Or get referrals to places to apply at for housing or rental payments.
Too many people from Edinburgh have too much debt as well. So specialists can provide free information on budgeting and how to maximise their income. Or if a tenant is in rent arrears, this can also be addressed through the debt reduction services.
The homeless programmes and advice provided also last for several months too. So ongoing tenancy support will be arranged so the client is not just faced with a crisis again in the near future. Those individuals with a mortgage may also be able to benefit from long term support services. So the advice provided is flexible and addresses issued ranging from referrals to rent assistance to employment.
There are many eligibility requirements in place by Cyrenians. While it is a free service and available all across Edinburgh, the person needs to be aged 18 or older. The individual seeking advice also needs to be willing to work towards achieving housing stability. For more information on their homeless prevention services, call the charity at 0131 475 2556.
This involves all impacted people, including the tenant, landlord, lender, and homeowner. This has been shown to be yet another effective solution to ending homelessness in the city. It can help those that owe rent to their landlord or have excessive debts due to a lender.
The specialist selected from Cyrenians will serve an independent role and will not take sides in the dispute. The mediator will serve an impartial role, and this needs to be done in order to try to find a solution. No landlord or lender can have it that the mediator is taking the site of the tenant or homeowner.
Together they will explore different assistance programmes that may be available. All parties try to work with people that are struggling, as no one looks to see continued homeless in Edinburgh. The parties will explore applying for discretionary housing payments or look into any other private schemes for paying rent that may be available. Another possible option is some form of payment plan.
A Personal Advisor will also work with the participant based on the results of the mediation session. The goal will be to follow up and implement anything that was agree to by all parties. They will also try to have a quick response time to solutions that have been agreed to.
Mediation addresses many housing problems too. For example, it can help people that are in a difficult situation with their landlord, such as maybe the physical condition of their home. They can assist those with all types of challenges.
All of these Homelessness Prevention Services and mediation are available at the main Cyrenians office, which is located at Norton Park, 57 Albion Road, Edinburgh EH7 5QY. Anyone who needs help or advice can call 0131 475 2354. A specialist will work with the individual on exploring different housing services.
