Elizabeth Finn Grants help tenants relocate

Former professionals who are dealing with financial difficulty may have access to sizable grants to help them improve their economic situation. A unique opportunity exists to move to a more affordable rental property, as these moving costs and security deposits can be paid by Elizabeth Finn Care, a national charity that helps with such expenses.

What is offered?

Elizabeth Finn Care awards direct grants to individuals and families to assist with moving expenses, bills and disability aids. These Elizabeth Finn Grants are awarded either as one-off grants to help a client move, or as recurring support that can cover a wide variety of bills including rent and utilities.

Funds may be used for security deposit or first month’s rent. Any moving costs can be included in the application. Some approved applications have in the past included additional requests for adaptations or equipment to help clients who are disabled.

Over £4 million is distributed annually to recipients in need. The average recipient received over £1,050 in aid, making this a very valuable form of aid to a struggling household.

Who is eligible?

As a charity that serves professionals, a household member must have worked in a profession that requires advanced skill and training. While a strict list of approved professions has previously been maintained, the Director or the organisation has expressed a willingness to consider new professions not previously included in the past.

Previous grant awards were approved for accountants, military Officers (Commissioned and NCOs), teachers, farmers, fire and police, lawyers, scientists and engineers. There are many other categories that have also been approved. Any potential applicant who believes they may meet the definition of a former professional is encouraged to apply.

Awards are needs-based. Therefore each applicant should be able to demonstrate that they have no more than £4,000 in total savings.

How to apply

Individuals or families are eligible to apply directly with the organisation. Initial enquires may be made by calling the helpline at 0808 802 2000. A letter may also be sent to:

Funds can be used to cover the security deposit, first months rent and any utilities necessary in the new household. Costs for the move, including movers or a truck can also be included. It represents a real opportunity to make a change to reach a better and more stable financial situation.

Hello there. I’m a Chartered Architectural Technologist by trade. Unfortunately due to poor health and disability I am no longer able to work in the capacity I used too. I am on ESA and can only do permitted work as and when I am able. I am hoping the grants from Elizabeth Finn can help me.
I lost my house and job after a marriage break-up which has significantly affected my already poor health. I had to move into a ground floor, social rented flat. Unfortunately this is affecting my health further as the neighbour next door is deaf and has his TV and music on very loud, as does the neighbour upstairs. The acoustics are very bad so I would like to improve them by means of an acoustic ceiling and decoupled walls between the party walls.
I am being awoken early hours by the upstairs neighbour and during the day the noise is unbearable. This is greatly disturbing my sleep and am unable to rest during the day which in turn is affecting my mental and physical health. I was wondering if you are able to provide any grant assistance in upgrading the party walls and ceiling or if Elizabeth Finn can help me move to a new flat. It’s going to cost at least £1200.
I a trying to do some permitted work from home but this is proving very difficult with the noise/lack of sleep issues. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Kind regards Helen Pittams MCIAT, BSc Hons.
