Feed the Hungry Heart support services in London

No matter the client’s religion, the Christian Community Church Feed the Hungry Heart programme is available to the vulnerable. A priority of the services provided by the charity are on helping senior citizens as well as the homeless in the city of London, but anyone facing a crisis can drop in at the hub.

Volunteers from the charity offer everything from food to clothing as well as alcohol recovery advice for substance mis-users. The main drop in centre is only open on Wednesday and Thursday. But during those two days there are many services provided.

If someone is seeking clothing or food, this is provided in the form of a low cost hot meal or piece of clothing. However in a crisis a client may be given what they need for free rather then needing to purchase it. This will generally be for a person with a health care issue, or maybe they lost their home to a fire. In these instances the Feed the Hungry Heart programme will offer the support for free. It may be a box of groceries, blanket or furniture for a new home, vouchers to local food banks and other aid.

The homeless in the London borough of Hounslow are some of the main clients as well. The Hub will provide them the care they need. Much of it is practical support, such as a haircut that can be provided on Wednesdays. There is also access to showers as well as a laundry and bathroom.

Hot meals are also served to the homeless by the volunteers at the Christian Community Church. It will normally be something small, such as a snack or hot drink of tea. If the person is facing hunger though, then this may be when the charity offers more support as noted above. All assistance provided is at their discretion.

Feed the Hungry Heart also tries to help seniors in Hounslow. Older people have been impacted more than others by the ongoing welfare cutbacks occurring in the borough. Many of the people that are local to Hounslow are falling into poverty as a result of this. So the church will try to support them in their time of need.

Everything noted above can be used by the senior citizens. However other assistance is also given to them. The volunteers may bring them a hot meal if they live in the Pears Road area. Or the staff will also just visit a senior citizen at the Hub to provide them companionship if they need it. Or during the cold, winter months they can be brought a blanket or have someone drop in to ensure they are still safe.

Most of the aid is offered Wednesday and Thursday, but Feed the Hungry Heart may also open on Wednesdays in some cases. For more information, the Hub is at 101a Pears Road, Hounslow, London TW3 1SS. The telephone to call is 020 8569 5359.
