Hackney rent deposit help

Hackney borough residents with an eviction notice or that are homeless can get help paying a rent deposit for private sector housing. There are a combination of loans, bonds that need to be repaid, as well as guarantees – no government agency or charity in Hackney will provide cash.

Almost all of the rent deposit help is for (1) the homeless that have a source of income/job but do not have the funds or (2) anyone threatened by homelessness and that have an eviction notice. The applicant needs to have a source of income to pay future rent for the home or flat. This can be from benefits, Universal Credit, Job Seekers, welfare or of course a job. Find more details below.

Places to get rent deposit assistance

There are four different organisations. Three of them focus on all areas of London and one of them (the council) only covers the Hackney borough. The government agencies as well as not-for profits are listed below.

Government

There are two government agencies. They are the Hackney Council as well as the East London Housing Partnership. Both of them offer bonds, which guarantee the rent deposit for landlords that participate. It guarantees the property against damage and/or rent arrears. The two government agencies are below.

  • Hackney Council offers a bond loan. This means that the council will guarantee the deposit for a certain period of time, up to a one year tenancy. Then the bond needs to be repair by the tenant. There is only help for the priority homeless. Address for applications is Hackney council housing office, 1 Hillman Street, Hackney, London E8 1DY. Phone 020 8356 3330. Continue with Hackney Emergency Help from welfare.
  • East London Housing Partnership is another government agency. They also provide welfare benefits as well as financial assistance to the Hackney Borough. It is a rent deposit bond scheme for housing. The address is Tower Hamlets Council, Town Hall, Mulberry Place, 5 Clove Crescent, E14 2BG. As noted, they also help Hackney families, and ring 020 8227 5031 for details.

Charities and not-for-profits

Not for profits also can help with housing needs. They can often include free food parcels, furniture, and other goods that a Hackney family may need. A charity can often give rent deposit help as well as items for a home or flat. The schemes are only for the currently homeless that have the tools as well as resources to gain stability.

  • A nationwide charity is Hope Worldwide. They assist adults who are homeless. The first step is a hostel and job, then there may be financial help for a deposit. Applicants need to be over age 25. Telephone 020 7713 7655. The address is 360 City Rd, The Angel, London EC1V 2PY. Read more on housing from Hope Worldwide.
  • Immigrants, minorities, Africans, and blacks can apply for the rent deposit scheme from Davish Enterprise Development. This not for profit partners with the Hackney Council ass well as churches in the borough. Telephone number is 020 8555 8917. The address for drop ins is 61 Broadway, London E15 4BQ.

As the list above shows, there are several rent deposit as well as housing schemes for the borough of Hackney. There are enough options to help the poor, low income, minorities as well as homeless among others. Even if deposit help is not offered, then a referral may be provided.
