Help from Foxton Centre programmes in Lancashire

Several services are run by Foxton Centre. The agency, which is based in Preston, runs programmes such as Outreach and Streetlink for addressing housing problems. Families facing hunger can turn to the community cafe, or the staff from the centre can also pass out vouchers to a food bank.

More information on each of the programmes are below. While the Foxton Centre can help address the crisis, they do try to solve the root cause of the crisis from Creative Workshops as well as a job club. Those services, and many others, are available in the Preston and Lancashire area.

Assistance for the homeless is from Assertive Outreach. Volunteers as well as social workers go out to the streets of the Lancashire area to locate people sleeping rough. They will then give them advice and practical support, maybe including a box of food or free blanket to keep warm. The team will also encourage them to move into some form of emergency shelter in the area.

Food and hygiene needs are met from the Foxton Centre Community Cafe. Not only can people get a hot meal and drink, but they can access other services at their drop in centre. There is a shower they can use, and based on donations, free a change of clothes may be passed out to people in poverty.

The Café, which is located in Preston, offers a place for people to stay. During their visit, support is given to them, including a low cost nutritious meal. Volunteers will also listen to their stories and offer guidance, including information on solutions.

If the person lacks a job, or the ability to afford their bills or food costs on their own, then a job programme is run. This will include accredited life skills training. A team of social workers and other generous members of the Lancashire community offer this daily support to people.

One key service for jobs is the IT Course. Clients of Foxton learn or improve basic computer skills, including accessing and searching the internet, opening and creating word documents, using e-mails, opening and creating Microsoft documents, and more. The aim is to assist them with pursuing AQA accredited qualifications.

A drop in centre is at Lune Street and the The Central Methodist Church. They are a key Foxton partner. At this location, a number of services are provided to the vulnerable. The location gives people a safe place to get practical support needs met. They can not only be given a hot meal, but advice on everything from applying for housing benefits to local schemes and welfare assistance. Volunteers are located at the centre to give support.

Safelink is for residents under the age of 22. Whether they are homeless or out of work, Foxton Centre will offer them support. There can be counselling for people struggling with family relationships, free food to keep them fed, and information on temporary accommodations to get them off the streets of Lancashire. Many other assistance programmes are available for the youth in Preston.

The main location of the Foxton Centre is at Knowsley Street, Avenham, Preston, PR1 3SA. Call the organisation at 01772 555925 for more information.
