Staff from the Harbour Place Day Centre provide free and confidential advice to the less fortunate. Not only that, but the centre will give a Lincolnshire resident a free hot meal or some other form of food during the sessions. The information from the social workers at the site also address any problems the individual may be faced with.
The assistance is available from the Day Centre. This is the place for people to stop in at, and it is open five days per week in the city of Grimsby. It supports residents of the area, and this is where people can drop in at for support. The programmes offered are extensive, but Harbour Place also partners with other organisations in Lincolnshire County, as noted below.
Not-for-profit partners also provide advice from the centre. These organisations will visit from time to time, and the staff from them can provide a schedule on when the assistance is available. So there are certain workshops held. The main partners are below.
Anyone can stop by the Day Centre. Staff, or as many as 20 volunteers that work there, will chat with those that need advice. They offer support on preventing homelessness and dealing with housing issues. Another key aim is to support the low income or even homeless with gaining and sustaining accommodation in Lincolnshire.
Staff also can help clients that need welfare, or that are abusing some type of substance. They can signpost these individuals to either the Jobcentre services for applications to benefits, or they have information on resources for mis-users as well.
Internet points at the Harbour Place Day Centre will be available for people to look for jobs or gain new skills. They can use computers for emails or searching for jobs. Another use of the resources from the centre is to create CCs. Staff from the Empower project also help people become job ready.
Volunteer Service User project is a tool used to give people work experience in the local community. The Harbour Place Day Centre uses this with local charities ion Lincolnshire, and it can give individuals experience at a real job. This can then be noted on their CV too.
Basic needs include food and a lunch are served as well. This is often available along with clothing or personal hygiene items. In some cases these goods are available at the local centre for residents that are in financial crisis. These items are donated from the community, and they can make a difference in helping the vulnerable gain stability.
The Harbour Place Day Centre is located at 42 Albert Street West, Grimsby, DN32 7SJ. Call the staff at for more information 01472 344118.
