Home Energy Scotland gives free help to lower fuel bills

The Scottish Government is serious about reducing the costs for home heating. Through its Home Energy Scotland service, families are able to benefit from free advice when energy bills become unaffordable. Equipment upgrades are possible too.

Home Energy Scotland claims to have already helped a third of all households nationwide. That means that the majority of residents have yet to take advantage of the free programme.

Free advice for utility bill arrears

Residents who are unable to afford ongoing energy bills often start falling behind on one and then all of their bills. Eventually matters can get so bad that disconnection is being threatened on one or more of the utilities.

Home Energy Scotland provides a free advice hotline where users can get relief on these bills. By calling 0808 808 2282, Scottish residents may obtain the help they need on paying their energy bills. It is one of the best moves a family can make when they are having serious problems with paying the recurring bills each month.

Free equipment upgrades

The Scottish government has really put its money where its mouth is. While a green energy agenda is important, the government is putting serious money towards helping to upgrade the equipment used by homes throughout all areas of the country.

  • Free insulation upgrades can reduce the amount of energy consumed to heat a home. The help can turn a draughty home into a cosy one that uses less energy.
  • A new heating system is more energy efficient. It can heat the home better while still using less fuel. The result is a safer home that has a lower heating bill.
  • Some residents have received a new boiler through the Greener Scotland initiative. This further reduces energy bills for each home.

There really is no excuse for continuing to pay high utility bills when using obsolete technology to heat a home. Upgrades are available with help from the government. It takes the sting out of renovation costs.

Some tenants mistakenly believe that the service is for homeowners only. Landlords may also pursue aid on homes that need a retrofit with modern equipment. This benefits the landlord who should have lower maintenance costs on new equipment. Tenants and landlords alike benefit when the tenant’s energy bills are lower. This makes it more likely that the tenant can afford to pay the full rent price on-time.

Anyone who wants more information on the initiative may call Home Energy Scotland at 0808 808 2282.
