Housing and homeless programmes from The Basement in Liverpool

The homeless, people in priority need, and the vulnerable can receive help with their housing needs from The Basement. The charity does focus its services on the city of Liverpool, but there is also assistance for individuals and families on a low income across Merseyside. They also partner with other churches and not-for-profit organisations on programmes such as rental deposit schemes and other aid.

The charity provides help across Liverpool and the larger county as well. While temporary accommodations can be arranged, the Basement works to addresses the cause of the hardship or homelessness that an individual is faced with. Whether it is due to unemployment, mental illness, substance misuse, or another reason, the charity works to help the client.

Most of the services are available on site, and the specialists offer advice, referrals, and even accommodations when needed. They try to provide all information on assistance from one location, and that is the Advisory Centre. This is where clients can learn about housing solutions. For more information, the main drop in centre is at 56-60 Parr Street in Liverpool. The telephone number is 0151 707 1515.

Individuals that are on a low income, single parents, the homeless, and many others stop by the Advisory Centre for free advice. Social workers and volutneers from the Basement work with the client and conduct an assessment. This will help the organisation determine what sevices should be provided to the individual, and it can range from emergency accommodations to assisting with applications for schemes or benefits. Other topics addressed include Development, Medical treatment, Education, Training, and more. Anyone that is homeless or facing the threat of it can stop by the centre. It is available both in the day and evenings. Other services provided are as follows.

  • Clients can get free housing advice, and this includes information on how to apply for benefits. There are also deposit schemes available in Liverpool for the homeless, and referrals are offered to those.
  • Substance misusers can benefit from alcohol and even drug counselling.
  • Free hot meals, showers, and clothing may be provided by the Basement.
  • Job training and education is offered with employers and colleges across Liverpool.
  • The homeless can get referrals to funds for deposits on private rented sector accommodations, and more information is below.
  • Referrals are offered for many other local services and programmes in the area.

Rough Sleepers can also get help from Street Outreach. Staff as well as volunteers operate across Liverpool and support these individuals. They can be placed into accommodations or hostels. Other services can include access to alcohol treatment programmes and related services.

The Basement partners with many other charities, churches, and community centres across Merseyside as well. Some of the include Baptist Church Kensington as well as the Front Line Centre. Together they offer the homeless rent in advance schemes, emergency parcels of food, clothing, and other support.

Aid for housing costs can be provided through the partnerships. Councils in Liverpool may also offer no interest loans for rent in advance, and specialists from the Basement can help people apply to these. So outreach services extend across all of the greater Liverpool area.

Too many families and people in Liverpool are struggling due to the economy or maybe a reduction in their benefits. The Basement and its partners work to help those that are homeless and address the cause of it.
