Emergency housing and schemes from St Mungo help the homeless

Homeless prevention and resettlement is coordinated by St Mungo. Not only does the charity work to provide emergency accommodations to the needy, but they also help with permanent placement. Often that can include referrals to schemes for a security deposit. They will also ensure people have the support they need to sustain their housing over the long term.

While financial assistance is limited in nature, they do have information on both government and private schemes that tenants can turn to for paying rent in advance or maybe a deposit. St Mungo will also offer some or all of the following services, including ongoing tenancy sustainment, outreach to rough sleepers, information on job skills, and cold weather shelters.

Stopping future homelessness is always a priority, but can be difficult to achieve. More families in Bristol are struggling to pay their rent, especially with the reduction in housing benefits. So staff from St Mungo work with the client to resettle them if need be into a more affordable flat. It is offered for the vulnerable, and others, even including ex-offenders or those with a mental health issue. As part of this, the person can learn about aid such as a bond for a rental deposit or any private schemes in the Bristol area.

Resettlement services from St Mungo’s help tenants move on to new accommodations or flats in Bristol. It is often offered at the same time as homeless prevention, as noted above. They can explore various financial aid programs available too.

Sustainment is also provided. This will ensure the tenants does not face future evictions from their new home. Families will have regular visits, advice given to them, and practical help from volunteers. The goal is to end homelessness and poverty in the Bristol region.

Support recovery is when a formerly homeless person is given access to a keyworker. They will partner to find personalised solutions for housing needs, including job training and similar. They can also receive advice on benefit maximisation and well as help in applying for other government schemes or welfare.

The Project based recovery plan also addresses educational needs. This may be IT training and literacy opportunities, among other classes. Or learn how to budget and gain financial literacy. The goal is to improve the life skills of the Bristol individual.

Emergency housing and services are provided. It is a short term solutions, as volunteers want to get people into new accommodations as quickly as possible. There, they will be placed into training or education, and also learn about government schemes for their future independent housing needs. This is offered for rough sleepers in the area and others.

Also, as part of outreach, St. Mungo will work with other churches and charity organisations to help individual’s access assistance programmes. This can include drug and alcohol services, physical and mental health services, temporary accommodation and more.

When someone moves from the shelter, they may be placed into a Hostel. This is a type of transitional housing, and it will allow individuals to have their own room. They will also be offered additional support from St Mungo’s keyworkers.

This chase workers from the charity will give the hostel guest solutions to their housing needs, whether that is rental deposit scheme, information on training, or employment. Other support is offered too, including health checkups if needed.

Cold weather accommodations are offered for those sleeping rough. There is a hot meal, emergency shelter, and other support for the homeless during the winter. This may also operate during the Severe Weather Emergency Protocols events.

St Mungo also manages housing sites for those with a mental illness, drug addiction, or other complex needs. This centre provides them ongoing support, and hopefully help in the recovery process. Then when they are stable, assistance is offered to help place them into new affordable accommodations in the area. Clients can get help in applying for schemes, any housing benefits and referrals.

Several other resources are available by St Mungo. Some of them include the following.

  • Employment services will address factors that lead to the eviction or homelessness.
  • Move On is more advice from St Mungo.
  • Programmes are offered for those with a mental illness or addition.
  • Guardians for Properties is a service for landlords in the region.

Much more is available in an effort to assist as the client recovers from homelessness. While not everyone will be eligible for their services, referrals may be offered. As there are many other groups in Bristol that focus on helping tenants through deposit schemes and many other solutions.
