There are dozens of soup kitchens in the city of Manchester. They provide free meals to anyone in need. They may offer a hot breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, or other meals. Each soup kitchen has its own hours and serve meals only certain times of the day. They can be located at churches, charities, or council offices. Some of the Manchester locations also provide a free parcel of food or operate shelters for the homeless.
Anyone in need can use a centre. There is no shame. There are jobless individuals who use the free Manchester soup kitchens. Or it may be the homeless, lonely, youth, or older people. Some of the soup kitchens even serve meals at the Christmas holidays to anyone in need or they give out small gifts too.
The charities below only serve meals and maybe give small amounts of food. They do not provide other support to the needy. All sorts of items may be served. Some provide free Christmas meals to the needy in Manchester.
The Trussell trust also operates some sites with both foodbanks and soup kitchens. These are only for clients with a voucher though. One examples of a charity with meals is the Oldham Foodbank and Soup Kitchen. Get a voucher from a GP, social worker, or council. The Booth Centre provides hot meals, tea, drinks, and more from Monday to Thursdays. Anyone can drop in at Manchester Cathedral to access the centre. The telephone number is 0161 835 2499. There is a lunch and breakfast served at Victoria Street in Manchester. About 500 people per month get biscuits, tea or coffee, egg, milk, and other meal items from the drop in centre.
The Hope Café Soup Kitchen serves a hot weekly breakfast. It is on Saturday only. The café is located at Elim Foursquare Church. The homeless may also be given a blanket. The charities, churches, and not-for profits (as well as council schemes) below give both food and other assistance. Whether clothes, free hot meals, Christmas food baskets, hygiene supplies, or linkage to benefits, much more is offered.
The Manchester Salvation Army is a leading social service agency. They give many forms of assistance. There are free Christmas meals as well as toys, homeless shelters, food parcels, and free meals too. They also are a place for the needy to go for advice on long term solutions. The homeless can get a place to sleep as well as hot meal at Shelter Greater Manchester. The post is Ground Floor, Victoria House, 5 Samuel Ogden Street, Manchester M1 7AX. A number of beds are available for the homeless to sleep in, but they fill up quickly especially during the cold weather. Ring 0344 515 1640. Some of the meals include coffee and toast in the morning. Tea is served all day and 10s of people drop in for free hot soup and bread in the afternoon.
Lifeshare Streetwork and Outreach Food Project has a Crisis Service, Weekend Breakfast, a Café, and Christmas Scheme. About 10 other schemes help the vulnerable, immigrants, and families on a low income. Manchester City Centre Project runs a scheme for young people in the city. It is for anyone under the age of 26. The Support Foundation is at 52 Oldham Street, Manchester. There are free breakfasts served as well as sandwiches for lunch. Hygiene supplies, soap, showers, and other free items are offered. It is open Monday to Friday, and phone is 0161 228 7655. The Young Person Support Foundation can also link the youth to hostels.
A drop in Centre, food bank, link to welfare benefits and more is at the Manchester City Mission. Families on a low income, asylum seekers and others can use the charity for help. A free hot weekend soup kitchen is at Lifeshare Weekend Breakfast Project. It is open from Saturday and Sunday from 7 – 9am, but runs throughout the year even on Christmas. Cornerstone Day Centre post is 104 Denmark Road, Manchester, M15 6JS. All sorts of assistance is given to the needy. They offer free or low cost meals.
