Glasgow Maundy Relief Trust services

Many forms of assistance are provided by the charitable Maundy Relief Trust that are specific to Glasgow. The organisation not only helps people in a crisis, but they also aim to prevent a financial hardship from occurring. The charity can offer everything from free food to key schemes, a furniture shop, outreach, and referrals to council housing or deposit schemes. Clients range from youth under the age of 18 to older people up to 60 years of age.

The list of services from Maundy Relief Trust is extensive. They offer more practical support (meals, free food parcels, furniture) as well as counselling type care, which is advice. No matter the need of the struggling person, as long as they are local to Lancashire they may be able to get help from the Glasgow based charity.

Advice from workers in Glasgow

Many issues are covered. Advice workers meet with the client to cover over their needs. Based on this assessment, there may be the following types of free advice given. One is help in applying for government benefits, whether it is welfare or rental arrears assistance. They also assist clients that are dealing with sanctions on their benefits.

Counselling is given to young people under the age of 18 from The Bridge. Professional counsellors deal with many topics, ranging from loneliness to anger, bullying, struggles at school, and more. Some of this is also covered by the Anger Management Scheme. The under 18 may also be linked to the social services from the trust, so this means either a box of food, drink, or meal can be served.

Financial assistance and goods from Maundy Relief

Food, fuel, and housing poverty is still too high across Glasgow. In an effort to address these needs, the Trust provides various forms of assistance. They may give out free food parcels with non-perishable groceries. There is also a free lunch served at the Drop in Centre from Monday to Saturday from 12:30 to 1:15, and it takes place on Charter Street in Glasgow.

The Maundy Relief Key scheme is a form of housing assistance. It is ongoing support given to tenants along with help in applying for Lancashire rent deposit schemes. The charity can help the vulnerable, homeless, and families close to an eviction. The age range is 25 to 60.

As part of the Key Scheme, the charity will work with the landlord, tenant, council, and other parties. All of this is done in an effort to reduce homelessness in the county. One big barrier is often lack of money to pay for the home, and the deposit bond can help there. Other forms of assistance range from a professional counsellor liasoning with the landlord and form filing services for the housing benefit.

A furniture shop is at the centre as well. Most families or individuals need to pay for what they need, whether it is a bed, chair, or some other household item. Only in a crisis may the Trust give free items from the furniture shop. This is generally for fires, domestic violence, or other extreme events.

Local Gps, the National Health Service, and volunteer nurses also give free advice as part of Health Services. The medical care is not given (beyond a basic check up), but Maundy Relief will offer advice, a listening ear, and other support. Both mental as well as physical needs are covered.

The drop in Centre for the Maundy Relief Trust is at 29-31 Abbey Street, Accrington, Lancashire, BB5 1EN. Or people can ring them at 01254 232 328.
