Rent and deposit assistance schemes Newcastle-Sunderland | Help with paying rent deposits in Newcastle-Sunderland

When facing an imminent eviction, or if someone is currently homeless, there are various schemes that may be able to help with paying rent or damage deposit costs on a new home. Many not-for-profits, charities, and government agencies in the Newcastle-Sunderland built up region as well as Tyne and Wear will also administer a short term rent scheme for homeless individuals.

All funds are limited, and some programmes focus on youth, the disabled, or elderly in the area. Applicants will also need to agree to participate in workshops such as stabilization and/or job training. The schemes are provided across the entire area, including the cities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, South Shields and others.

If you are facing homelessness, have rent arrears due, or need a solution for an issue with your landlord, call an organisation below. If they can’t help, the advisers will often have referrals to other possible solutions for your security deposit.

Mike Kelly says:

I am currently homeless with nowhere to turn it feels for money for the rent deposit on a new flat. I have a 10 year old son who I have a very strong bond with but as I’m classed as a single male 38 I am classed as none priority on the ISOS housing list in the Northumberland area. My family connection is in Prudhoe and would hopefully be able to get rehoused in the Ryton, Crawcrook area or as close as possible to be able to have a stable base to rebuild my life.
I’m unemployed but can’t get back into work with no address in Newcastle or Sunderland. Its critical that I get rehoused as I can’t let my son see me fall apart and life on the streets would finish me off. Any advice, direction on rent arrears help would be so gratefully needed as I don’t know where to turn and financially I’m currently broke.
I was homeless when I was 16 to 17 and when I went into the hostel system but it trapped me in a vicious circle until I was 20. I hopefully do not want to be in that situation again unless their is no other route to take. I’m hopefully looking for a bond scheme or an organisation that can help rehouse me ASAP and to help me get back into full time employment so I can rebuild my life and a stable home for my son to stay on weekends. I have wrote numbers for OASIS AQUILA, CHANGING LIVES, but don’t know if Gateshead council or that in Newcastle will prioritize my case. I’m lost basically any advice and direction would me much appreciated. Thanks Mike.
