Leeds temporary housing and shelter services

Several not-for-profit organisations in Leeds will offer emergency shelter to the vulnerable. There are housing accommodations for people from a diverse background, including refugees, lone parents, and anyone that is sleeping rough.

As an example of the services provided from one charity, Leeds Housing Concern, this agency will not only offer housing for the individual or even the family, but the volunteers at the centre can also signpost the person to long term support. So each of the organisations below offer many solutions in an effort to end homelessness in the city.

The capacity of each shelter is limited and eligibility criteria are in place. The agencies recommend that a resident call if possible or drop in for more information on the assistance that is provided.

A priority of Futures Nightstop is on young people. However based on capacity of the charity, some exceptions can be made. This organisation will help victims of domestic violence escape their current living environment. Most of the people that use the shelter are women or children, but in rare cases families can use the centre.

The service is only for people local to Leeds. The shelter will only allow a resident to stay for up to 60 days, but at that time signpost will be given to council schemes that can help the person move into social or private housing. The address is Clarence Road, Horsforth, LS18 4LB, telephone 0113 230 7888.

Holdforth Court is only for single men. The shelter is at Brussels Street. The person will be given a hot meal, clothing, and counselling as well. When leaving the accommodations the social worker will help the person find programmes to pay the rent on permanent housing, such as a form filling for benefits. The telephone is 0113 245 5049.

Leeds Housing Concern is for people of all ages. The emergency shelter will offer support while the individual moves on to a long term solution. Many other forms of housing support are provided to guests. This is one of the leading agencies in the city.

As noted, the housing is combined with support services. The aim is to offer shelter for a short term stay. This will allow the individual time to save money for a deposit or maybe find a job or address the cause of their crisis. The address is Oakdale House, 396-398 Meanwood Road, Leeds, LS7 2LP, Phone 0113 262 4330.

Refugees and people seeking Asylum in Leeds can get help from PAFRAS. There is emergency housing for them as well as a host of other services. This ranges from free food parcels to toliteries. Then, once they have settled into a new home, ongoing advice is given to the immigrant. The address is Chapeltown Enterprise Centre, 231-235 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, LS7 3DX, call 0113 262 2163.

St. George’s Crypt is for single homeless people in Leeds. The care centre will help them gain new job skills and also provide practical support, such as clothing. Programmes from the organisation include free advice and support around move-on options, Housing Benefits application classes, and an on site job centre will offer outreach to clients. There are also health services for people with a mental illness too. The post is Great George Street, LS1 3BR, or ring the charity at 0113 245 9061.
