Aylesbury Homeless Action Group shelter and housing assistance in Bedfordshire

The homeless, and people threatened by it, can get help from the Aylesbury Homeless Action Group. The charity partners with churches and local volunteers in an effort to help the vulnerable in the area. They offer housing services and information from their Hub.

Families and individuals across Aylesbury Vale can turn to the Hub for assistance. It is located at Walton Hall, Aylesbury, HP21 7QX, and this is the charity’s main center for helping the less fortunate. Not only can temporary accommodation be provided at this location, but case workers can provide ongoing tenancy support, referrals to charities for deposits, and more.

The aim is to prevent homelessness. In addition to above, other services from the Hub include help in finding new accommodations, whether in the private sector or maybe social housing. AHAG will also partner with groups to offer furniture and other household items for the new home, and ongoing advice is provided as well to the tenant to ensure they remain independent.

With the increasing number of homeless in Aylesbury, and more people with rent arrears that are due to their landlord, the Hub and its staff can help address the problem. While many people may not be eligible for lodging, or the centre or shelters fill up, volunteers can signpost individuals to local welfare schemes or other support, such as deposits or housing benefits. Many groups work together in the Vale to help prevent evictions and solve housing problems.

The shelter is for the homeless and people sleeping rough in Aylesbury. Not only will they be provided with a bed to sleep in, but they can use showers, washing machines, and access dental care services that are available on site. Other services from the shelter may include free food parcels, clothing, and help with acquiring and ID if it is needed. For individuals on a low income that are eligible, they can apply for rent deposit schemes from the local council. There will also be blankets and warm clothing provided for the winter time.

During the cold weather, the Winter Warmth shelter project is available. It is normally available during December, January, February, and March. This was created by the Aylesbury Homeless Action Group and it can provide people with a safe place to stay, and many volunteers and others from the community also help keep it operating.

The project is run in partnership with churches and other local charities, and it can also provide clients with a free hot meal or breakfast. If more long term support is needed, then the Action Group can refer a individual to a food bank in Bedfordshire. The centre is open during the winter months, and it will keep people off the streets of Aylesbury and keep them safe. The phone number for the Winter Warmth project is 01296 435026.

For more information, the Aylesbury Homeless Action Group post is 2 Rickfords Hill, Aylesbury HP20 2RX. Most of the housing aid is by appointment only, and people can call 01296 435026. As noted, if the charity can’t assist, then signposting may be provided to other agencies in Bedfordshire.
