Tewkesbury Borough rent deposit scheme

The Housing Options Service team at the Tewkesbury Borough Council office can provide support to residents that are threatened by homelessness or that currently do not have a place to live. One of the keys is to contact the council right away. As if there is financial aid from a deposit scheme or other assistance available, the resources often run out.

The advice is provided for free by the Housing Options Service. Anyone from the community can drop in for support. All information is also confidential. The council will assess the problems that are threatening the tenant or homeless person, and after that is done hopefully a solution to their crisis will be found.

Temporary accommodations, including a winter shelter, or for those in priority need. The lodging can be at one of many places in Tewkesbury Borough. There is housing placement done at hostels, a local bed and breakfast, shelter, or another site. This will give the person a place to stay while their applications for other aid, such as a rent deposit, or reviewed.

The Tewkesbury Borough Council will only offer this assistance for those in priority need per the UK guidelines. So this will include families with dependent children, the disabled or older people, a pregnant women, or families impacted by a disaster such as a fire. These are the individuals that take priority to any lodging.

Others that are not assisted can still talk to the team or other support. While they are not legally obligated to help the homeless, they still do offer this service.

The Housing Options Service may be able to provide assistance with a damage deposit from a bond scheme. This will also help a homeless person move into a private housing in Tewkesbury. Any type of support will also come with advice from the council.

Landlords from the district also need to agree to this form of payment, and the housing team has information on some properties that may be eligible. The flat needs to be affordable to live in, and the prospective tenant needs to be able to afford future rent on their own.

In order to make this happen, the homeless person that is in priority need can work with the Tewkesbury Borough Housing Options to apply for benefits. They will try to fast track the application as well. This, along with the advice, will help the family maintain their tenancy agreement in their new home over time. The benefits can be key to avoiding future homelessness.

The Housing Options Service can provide other help too. Any problems that come up that could lead to homelessness can be addressed. Mediation can be arranged to help resolve landlord disputes, they offer help to domestic violence victims, and work on preventing illegal evictions. Whether it is a job redundancy or a tenant being in debt arrears, the team will offer both direct support and signposting as needed.

For more information on the deposit scheme as well as other programmes from the Tewkesbury Council, the Housing Options Team phone is 01684 272212. While the rent deposit scheme is limtied, the advice is more available. The hours are five days per week until 4:30 pm.
