Free food banks can help families or individuals on a low income that are facing a one time crisis. The Wiltshire County area is supported by a few churches and charity groups, however resources are limited. In general, food parcels or bags of groceries are only provided to people who have obtained a voucher, and other criteria need to be met too.

Before dropping in at or calling a foodbank, a resident should stop by one of the many local referring agencies, such as CAB or even a social worker. There are other options as well, and the agencies will help people cope with feeding their family when they are faced by an exceptional hardship.

Based on levels of donations, each parcel from a food bank is designed to provide enough groceries, canned items, and goods to last as long as 4 days. This can provide the client time to solve the financial problem. Some of the Wiltshire centres can provide additional parcels of food if a client needs more time to address the crisis, and the main locations are below.

Trussell Trust food banks in Wiltshire

Crosspoint is part of the Trussell Trust food bank network, but they also offer other services in Wiltshire. The address is Albion House, which is located at 1 Market Square, Westbury, BA13 3DE. Non-perishable food, tinned meats, and more is available based on volunteers and donations. They also offer welfare form filling, counselling, and other programmes to people in poverty. Additional Trussell Trust centres in Wiltshire are located below. Each can be turned to in an emergency, if someone has a voucher. Volunteers will pass out a parcel, and signpost the client to other programmes too.

Other support is offered too from the food bank. As an example, Trussell Trust will also now offer advice. When Wiltshire residents arrive at the centre or church that is part of the network, they will be given free refreshments and the chance to talk over their problems with a specialist. They can then be referred to other benefits as well.

Free food parcels from charities

Alabare Place is a charity for the poor, homeless, and immigrants in Wiltshre County. They operate a few different schemes, including free food and meals at the drop-in centre. There is also clothing, a move on scheme, and soup kitchen. Food and more is offered. More information on food bank at Alabare Place.



Doorway drop in centre is for people threatened with homelessness and the vulnerable. There are hot meals, signposting to benefits and food banks, and even shower facilities. The address is 36 The Causeway, Chippenham, SN15 3DB, telephone 01249 445385.

Mendip YMCA can serve a hot meal to the homeless, including at Christmas. They also have a parcel of food too from the centre at Routes, 1a Palmer Street, Frome, BA11 1DS. The location is open Tuesday to Thursday.

Food and meals are also offered from the Salisbury Drop in Centre at Alabare Place. The charity will not only give vouchers to a food bank, but there are hot breakfasts and lunches served. Clients can also get an article of clothing, and help in applying for welfare benefits and more. Staff will also help the person find a job and get new food, so they will no longer need to use a foodbank in the future. St Barnabas Church and the Green Hut Drop in Centre assists senior citizens, the unemployed, and low income. Signposting is given to a food bank in Wiltshire, and the charity will also serve client a low cost meal and offer tea or coffee. Free toiletries, parcels of groceries, nappies, formula, and other aid is at the Storehouse Food Bank. The charity is open 3 days per week. The Bridge Cafe is a place for both food as well as a hot, low cost meal from volunteers. The location is open on Thursday and Friday, and address is Frome, BA11 3BS.

Wiltshire Council – The local welfare scheme provides many forms of emergency assistance to residents. This include a free parcel of food if the family has no other options available.
